Common Sense Ain’t That Common, Part 1

When I first made the decision to start my own business,
I had no idea what a roller coaster ride it would be.
My ex-wife must’ve had an inkling though.
In 1995, when I told her of my plans to end my career
as an Alaska Fisherman (after 7 years of putting my life
on the line) she promptly filed for a divorce and left
me.
As you can imagine, it was a serious blow to my ego to
discover that my own wife didn’t have any faith in me,
or my dreams.
But I forged ahead
In early 96 I started a cleaning and restoration company,
and for the first year or so, I did nothing but lose
money… and lots of it!
I soon began to think, “Sheesh Kevin, you’re wife was
right. You’re a miserable failure in business. Maybe
you’re not cut out for this”.
But about that time, I met a gentleman by the name of
Joe Polish, and he changed my life forever.
You see…
Joe had specialized knowledge (as well as a proven track
record), and he showed me how to turn my business around.
Granted, his help didn’t come cheap, but with his
guidance, my business became one of the most successful
cleaning and restoration companies in Washington State.
And we accomplished this feat in less than 2 years.
Prior to meeting Joe, I was struggling to make ends meet.
Struggling to figure things out on my own.
And the truth is, I wasn’t doing a very good job of it.
In fact, I was losing money on a daily basis.
If left to my own devices, I would’ve been forced to
close the doors on my business.
Forced to give up on my dreams and aspirations.
Forced to get another job and go back to work for someone
else (which was a thought I absolutely detested).
But…
